Managing Partner

Before founding Black Opal Equity, Matthew worked at The Macquarie Group, a full service investment bank and funds manager which specializes in infrastructure investing. During his time at Macquarie, Matthew made principal acquisitions on behalf of Macquarie, in the infrastructure service and essential service sectors.

Matthew has acquired and grown companies in the healthcare, aged care, property and business services sectors. Matthew was involved in the acquisition of four companies in the Aged Care sector, which were integrated to form Retirement Care (NZ), the largest aged care social infrastructure provider in New Zealand. Matthew was later involved in a series of acquisitions valued at circa $700m in the Retirement Village sector which were subsequently integrated to form The Retirement Village Group. Matthew most recently undertook several acquisitions in the US Home Infrastructure Service sector. After acquiring the two largest of these, America's Water Heater Rentals (the largest renter of water heaters in the US, based out of St Louis, MO) and later Utility Service Partners (a leading home warranty provider based out of Washington, PA), Matthew worked closely with senior management to integrate and organically grow the businesses under the Utility Service Partners, Inc. brand.

Prior to joining Macquarie, Matthew was the Financial Controller of BAJ Management Systems. BAJ was a nationally operating marketing agency based out of Sydney, Australia which specialized in direct and affiliate marketing strategies, particularly in the collegiate sector.

Matthew has a Bachelors of Business (accounting) and a Law degree.
